  • May 24-May 31 is Pennsylvania Hiking Week. The Westmoreland Conservancy, PV Park Volunteers and the 4-H Conservation Club will be leading walks at Pleasant Valley Park on Saturday, May 24th from 8:45 am to 11:45 am.
  • The 4-H Conservation Club participated in the Fugitive Tire Program sponsored by Westmoreland CleanWays. This program pays our group for every tire that we turned in. The 4-H Conservation Club plans to use the money raised to help pay for tree signs for the Tree Identification Sign project that we are doing in Pleasant Valley Park.

    April is Earth Month
      - On April 13th the 4-H Conservation Club cleaned up a small part of Pleasant Valley Park. (Flyer)

  • National Public Lands Day in Pleasant Valley Park On Saturday, September 29, 2007 forty-six people, including six young women all the way from Chatham University, took time out of their busy schedules to perform volunteer work at Pleasant Valley Park in Murrysville, PA. The event was organized by the PV Park Volunteers, an informal group dedicated to improving the park as well as raising awareness of the many things that the park has to offer. Members of the 4H Conservation club helped run the event by manning the registration table as well as handling the food and refreshments. (More) Press release with pictures.

  • (New) Pleasant Valley Park Phase 2 Trail Proposal, Recommended Trail Names, And Tree Identification Signs (6MB)(Approved by Murrysville Council on 3/19/2008)
  • Pleasant Valley Park is now on Flickr.  Use this link to look at pictures of the park, make comments, or view as a slide show.
  • The Botanical Society of Westmoreland County held a walk in the park on Sunday 9/12.
  • Two geocaches are hidden in Pleasant Valley Park - Cache hidden 5/7/07. Cache hidden 6/5/2007.
  • On June 17th. the Westmoreland Bird & Nature Club held a full bioblitz of PV Park searching for salamanders, snakes, turtles, ground beetles, galls, toadstools, etc.  (Species Lists Updated)
  • On June 20th. a Park Chat Walk was held in Pleasant Valley Park
  • In June 2007, members of the Murrysville Parks and Recreation Commission and Mayor Somers toured PV Park. They thought the results of the PV Volunteers work looked nice and were pleased. The Mayor is more comfortable with the bridges after seeing their construction.  Also, Council recently passed a Gifting List for Murrysville's Parks. PV Park is on the list. Any questions or donations should go through John Barrett at 724-327-2100.
  • On Friday, June 1, Tony Pegnato led a bird walk looking for resident breeders and late migrants.
  • Park volunteers on May 9th improved a section of trail using limestone
  • Dale's bird watching report for May 8, 2007.
  • On Earth Day, April 22, an amphibian and reptile survey was done at Pleasant Valley Park. Possibly due to warm temperatures, only one snake, a northern ringneck snake, was found. Also identified were a red spotted newt, dusky salamander, mountain dusky salamander,
    two lined salamander, northern two lined salamander, bullfrog, and
    Wood frog tadpoles. Many insects, birds, aquatic invertebrates,and plants were identified. (Updated Species Listing) (Conservancy Corner Article)
  • Despite inclement weather, 48 people participated in theTrail Workday at PV Park on Sunday, April 1. (more) (Article)
  • Park Chat Walks in Murrysville's Parks and Nature Reserves
  • P.V. Park Volunteers installed a sign at entrance to parking lot.
  • Botanical Society of Western PA and the Westmoreland Bird & Nature Club had an outing led by Dick Byers in PV Park on Sunday, February 4th at 10 AM.

  • On Saturday, December 30 Joe Galvin, Tom Dittman, Lou Grkman, Jereme Fischer, Dave Roarty, and Scott Hollern installed two more prefabricated bridges on the new trail. Thanks again to Scott Hollern who donated most of the lumber used for the bridges. In addition, about 150 feet of trail that was always wet (due to groundwater seeps) was rerouted a little further up the hillside.
  • 4H Club forming in Murrysville will do Projects in PV Park. (more)

  • Provide useful information for visitors to Pleasant Valley Park.  Increasing the public's knowledge and use of the park, will help strengthen support for keeping the park.

Pleasant Valley Park's 262 acres of woodlands, open fields, hilltops and remote valleys provide excellent areas for many outdoor activities year round. Anyone who enjoys being outdoors in a natural area, is likely to find something to like about Pleasant Valley Park.
